Job Description

Responsible for crafting and constructing various stone, brick, or concrete structures as well as carryout structural repairs on client premises. Attention to detail, proficiency in masonry techniques, and a commitment to quality craftsmanship are essential for success in this role Key Duties/ Responsibilities.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Masonry work and preparation

 

Prepare materials such as stone, brick, concrete, and mortar for use in masonry projects. Cut, shape, and size materials according to design specifications.

 

Assemble and construct masonry structures, including walls, arches, columns, and decorative features, using appropriate techniques such as laying bricks or stones, applying mortar, and levelling surfaces.

 

Finish surfaces of completed structures to achieve desired textures and appearances. Use tools such as trowels, brushes, and chisels to shape and refine surfaces

 

Maintenance and Repair.

 

Perform regular inspections of existing masonry structures and surfaces to identify needed repairs.

 

Repair and restore damaged or deteriorating masonry work.

 

Clean and maintain masonry tools and equipment.

 

Quality Control:

 

Inspect finished products for quality and accuracy, ensuring that they meet design specifications, structural requirements, and industry standards. Make adjustments or repairs as necessary.

 

Safety Compliance:

 

Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries during masonry operations.

 

Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure the safety of self and others in the workshop.

 

Report any safety hazards or concerns to the Workshop Supervisor or Safety Officer.

 

Report any incidents, accidents or near misses to the authorities for appropriate action.

 

Documentation and Reporting:

 

Maintain accurate records of masonry work performed, including materials used & hours worked

 

Collaboration and communication

 

Work closely with other workshop personnel to coordinate activities and ensure project timelines are met.

 

Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding project progress and any issues that arise.

 

Key Outputs/Deliverables/KPIs

 

Masonry work & preparation.

 

Work Completion Rate: 100% of masonry tasks completed on time as per the project schedule.

 

Material Utilization Efficiency: effective use of materials with minimal waste as per set standards.

 

Preparation Time: Time taken to prepare materials and work area before starting a task as per set standards.

 

Maintenance and Repair

 

Time taken to Response Time to Repairs as per set standards.

 

Repair Completion Rate: 100% percentage of repair tasks completed on schedule

 

Repeat Repairs: The number of repairs that need to be redone within a certain period as per set schedule

 

Quality Control

 

Customer Satisfaction: Average score of Feedback from clients or supervisors on the quality of completed masonry work as per set schedule

 

Safety Compliance

 

Safety Incident Rate: zero safety incidents or near misses reported.

 

PPE Compliance: 100% Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

 

Safety Training Attendance: 100% Participation in required safety training sessions.

 

Documentation and Reporting

 

Proper documentation of work performed including parts used and hours worked.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Government trade test in masonry (Artisan Grade 1)

 

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a mason in construction or a workshop setting

 

Proficiency in laying bricks, blocks, and other masonry units.

 

Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.

 

Knowledge of masonry materials, tools, and techniques.

 

Basic mathematical skills for measuring and calculating materials.

 

Effective communication and teamwork skills.

 

 

 

Education: Degree, Diploma
