Description: VisionSpring, an international social enterprise, was founded in 2001 with a mission to broaden access to affordable eyewear everywhere. We establish market access to eyeglasses and vision correction for people living in poverty so that they may enhance their livelihoods, learning, and quality of life. To date, VisionSpring has sold nearly three million pairs of glasses to low income consumers living in emerging and frontier markets, and is working to reach 10 million pairs by the symbolic year 2020. As a social enterprise, social change motivates us first. Our focus on sales and revenue targets serves and advances our mission objective - to correct refractive error with eyeglasses so that low income consumers may experience improved functioning, productivity and income earning potential on a sustained basis. We are working to transform the systemic dysfunction of the optical market which has failed to deliver a 700 year old technology to 644 million consumers who earn less than $4 a day. We serve low income consumers not as beneficiaries but as customers. Our customers expect a high quality, affordable product and are willing to spend limited discretionary income for the immediate and tangible benefits of vision correction. By selling glasses we awaken new demand and seed a viable market. By selling new eyeglasses we are able to serve four times as many people per dollar input than the next alternative of donating recycled ones . To efficiently scale, we must deliver each new unit with less cost. Organizationally, we are a hybrid. We are a registered 501(c)3 non-profit and a Private Limited Company (PLC). We earn revenue and supplement it with contributed income. We hire change makers and pay bonuses and commissions. We run our business on both sales metrics and social impact measures. We exploit a range of organizational forms and practices to get the job done.
Job Description

About You

You are a proficient and experienced finance and accounting leader. You excel at making sure debits and credits are recorded correctly. It’s more important for you to do it right the first time. If you are unsure how to record an entry, find out how it should be done before recording it quickly.

You value precision and easily keep track of the most minor details. Numbers are prepared on time, and you strive for accuracy. You create clarity for external parties - investors/donors, auditors, and vendors.

You are analytical. You can read and understand budgets and financial statements and quickly notice when line items don’t add up.

Your world needs to be predictable, so you make it so. Instinctively, you adhere to routines and timelines and help others appreciate the need for structure and repeatable processes. You are always looking for a better way to get recording and reporting done more efficiently.

You have a critical eye and are not afraid to be the first person to speak up if anything looks amiss. For you, organizational accountability is personal.

Friends would describe you as trustworthy and structured, wise with low ego, resilient, and highly ethical.

About Us

We are creating access to eyeglasses for low-income people. Clear vision creates opportunities for increased learning, work, safety, civic participation, and quality of life.

As a social organization, social change motivates us first. Our focus is on advancing our mission objectives - to increase functioning, productivity, and income earning potential for our low-income people by correcting impaired vision with eyeglasses.

We serve low-income people who are more than beneficiaries for us. Our customers expect high-quality eye screening and eyeglasses and will spend limited discretionary income on the immediate and tangible benefits of vision correction

We run our operations on metrics and social impact measures. We leverage a range of organizational forms and practices to get the work done.

We believe in scaling our impact, not our organization. We are a lean team of doers

We sell and deliver radically affordable optical products and services and develop markets for eyeglasses. This 700-year-old technology has failed to reach 1 billion people needing vision correction, most of whom live on less than $4 daily.

As a social enterprise, we are purpose first. We blend philanthropic and earned revenue, draw on non-profit and business practices, and use sales and efficiency metrics and social impact measures to bring vision correction to even more people.

We catalyze collaborative action in an expansive, multisector partner network and use our evidence and experience to influence systems change and close the global clear vision gap.

We believe in scaling our impact, not our organization. We are a lean team of doers.

Our big goal: Everyone who needs eyeglasses will have them by 2050.
