Description: Worldwide, there are now over 60 million forcibly displaced people - the highest number ever recorded. Of those, approximately 20.2 million are refugees who have fled their home countries as a result of conflict and violent persecution. Of the 20.2 million, over 11 million have been refugees for more than 5 years and some as long as 60. The average length of refugee exile today is 17 years, a time-span that has increased over the past two decades due to the intractability of many conflicts. In Sub-Saharan Africa, where RefugePoint focuses its efforts, there are more than 3 million refugees fleeing violence and persecution in the Congo, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, and other countries experiencing conflict and instability. The most vulnerable refugees include, among others, women at risk, survivors of torture, and orphans and other minors separated from their families. Without long-term solutions, these refugees will remain in desperate situations for decades, living in overcrowded refugees camps and urban areas, unable to rebuild their lives in dignity and peace. Founded in 2005, RefugePoint’s mission is to provide lasting solutions for the world’s most vulnerable refugees. We address the critical and unmet needs of those who fall through the cracks of humanitarian assistance and have no other options for survival, with a focus on women, children, and urban refugees.
Job Description

 

 

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

RLO and CBO Engagement and Collaboration:

  • Develop and implement strategies to engage RLOs and CBOs in authentic collaboration, fostering partnerships and synergy to achieve shared goals;
  • Facilitate dialogue and coordination between refugee-led organizations, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to promote advocacy, networking and partnership, refugee centeredness and leadership, policy development and strengthen program implementation and service delivery;
  • Advocate for improvements in support structures and systems, resource allocation influencing positive changes that benefit refugee-led organizations and refugee-focused CBOs;

Capacity Sharing:

  • Carrying out needs assessments for RLOs;
  • Conducting validation exercises for new RLOs and CBOs through field visits and close collaboration with the Community-Based Protection team;
  • Plan, design, and implement capacity-building strategies tailored to the specific needs of RLOs and CBOs, focusing on enhancing their ability to provide quality services and support to refugees;
  • Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and mentoring initiatives to build the skills and knowledge of RLOs and CBOs in program management, organizational development, and service provision;
  • Support RefugePoint’s Program leads/staff in tailoring and developing content to be shared with CBOs and RLOs during peer-to-peer learning sessions, once these needs have been identified at the training needs assessment stage;
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of capacity-strengthening activities, making adjustments as necessary to ensure maximum impact;
  • Lead initiatives aimed at strengthening the organizational and or programming capacity of RLOs including the recruiting and supervision of external consultants and or trainers;

Networking and Collaboration:

  • Proactively engage with other refugee-serving organizations, government entities, and stakeholders to foster knowledge exchange, promote collaboration, and share best practices;
  • Represent RefugePoint in relevant forums, conferences, and meetings to advocate for the rights and needs of refugees and influence improvements in support structures;
  • Stay informed about regional and international developments in the refugee sector, contributing to the organization's strategic planning and program development;

Grant Management:

  • Oversee the design and implementation of grant programs, ensuring adherence to established guidelines and procedures;
  • Oversee the sub-granting process, from the initial planning, prequalification, screening, validation checks, contract drafting and partnership onboarding;
  • Monitor the performance of grant recipients, tracking progress, and providing technical support to maximize the impact of funded initiatives;
  • Coordinate sharing of learning of the grants management processes between relevant Refugepoint staff throughout the grant monitoring period;
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on grant outcomes, impact, and lessons learned for internal and external stakeholders;

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare accurate and timely reports on progress, outcomes, and impact;
  • Maintain comprehensive records of grant activities, including budgets, proposals, and evaluation reports;
  • Collaborate with the monitoring and evaluation team to collect and analyze data related to RLO and CBO engagement and grants implementation;
  • In collaboration with the Chief Program Officer, the Deputy Country Director & the Associate Director, Host Country Solutions, document and disseminate lessons learned in the engagement with RLOs and CBOs on capacity strengthening;

Cross-Department Collaboration and Technical Leadership:

  • Act as a liaison between different RefugePoint teams engaged with RLOs and CBOs ensuring seamless communication, collaboration, and coordination within the organization to ensure alignment of objectives agency-wide;
  • Provide expert technical guidance to internal teams, stakeholders, and partners on RLO engagement including sharing lessons learned, best practices and learning on refugee-centered programming;

Attend any other duties as assigned by the Chief Programs Officer and the Deputy Country Director.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Degree in International Relations, Social Work, Humanitarian Affairs, Adult Education, Community Development or a related field; Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s Degree required;
  • Excellent public presentation skills and comfort with training large and small groups required;
  • At least five years’ experience in non-profit humanitarian work, international work experience highly preferred;
  • Experience using participatory learning approaches and familiarity with adult learning techniques required;
  • Prior work with refugee-focused organizations is preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience assessing needs (knowledge, skills, practice) among internal and external audiences;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing learning strategies that reflect the importance of the local environment and context (language, culture, socio-political, power, etc.);
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in developing and facilitating workshops and/or other types of trainings related to humanitarian affairs;
  • Superior writing ability and ability to synthesize and distill complex information; Experience writing training materials and curricula highly preferred;
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills;
  • English language fluency required;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, maintaining flexibility and attention-to-detail;
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and cloud-computing platforms;
  • Ability to travel internationally; and
  • Willingness and ability to maintain a flexible work schedule due to communication with field locations.
