The legal officer shall be in charge of the University legal affairs. He/she shall be the Legal Advisor of the University Management and Council. The Legal officer shall report to the Vice-Chancellor.
Requirements for appointment to this position:
- Be a Christian in good standing
- Have a Bachelor’s degree in law (LL. B) from a recognized University;
- Be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing certificate;
- Have served in the grade of Legal Officer for a period of Four (4) years or in a comparable and relevant position with working experience in conveyancing, labour laws, public procurement law, commercial law, legal drafting and have negotiation skills;
- Have demonstrable ICT skills;
- Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya (attach all relevant documents);
- Have demonstrable professional competence and high administrative ability in work performance and results; and
- Those with Master’s degree in law (LL.M) shall have an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Roles include:
- Provide legal counsel to University Council and Management Board;
- In consultation with the user departments, negotiate, draft, review all agreements and contracts between the University and other parties and report to the University Management Board;
- Preparation of legal or quasi-legal documents for the University as may be required from time to time;
- Advice the University on compliance with all the relevant statutory and regulatory requirements in its operations;
- Representing the University in all legal matters
- Handling cases involving the University in liaison with external lawyers where applicable.
- Ensure formulated policies and procedures adhere to internal and external regulations;
- Be a Commissioner of Oaths and Notary Public for the University; and
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the University Management.
