POSITION SUMMARY:

  • HIAS seeks to recruit 4 Child Protection Monitors who will assist in the provision of social interventions and assistance to the most at risk and vulnerable refugee children. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Identify and monitor child rights violations in the community, refer cases to the appropriate authorities, and Child Protection Associates to ensure their protection needs are addressed.
  •  Provide regular follow-up on identified cases.
  • Conduct regular home visits in the community to monitor the protection situation of refugee children and other vulnerable groups.
  • Assist Child Protection Associates in the implementation of appropriate interventions for at-risk refugee and asylum seeker children through provision of direct assistance to refugee and asylum seeker children in the community.
  • In collaboration with the local leaders, authorities, identify refugees and asylum seekers children at heightened risk, provide them with ad hoc immediate support, and refer them for specialized services as may be deemed appropriate
  • Participate in community awareness raising, dissemination of information forums and sensitization campaigns.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports indicating progress in relation to targets and client needs.
  • Support in mapping of services and humanitarian needs and in providing basic counselling to beneficiary groups in relevant services and referral pathways.
  • Attend regular staff meetings, trainings and other meetings as required.
  • Assist with the translation services for refugees in the community during activities as may be         required during child protection assessments and community based activities.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Entry level with at least 3 months’ work experience, preferably with an NGO.
  • Be registered as a refugee in Nairobi
  • Experience in the field of refugee Child Protection will be an added advantage.
  • Basic literacy in English and at least one language prevalent in the refugee community in Nairobi
  • Well integrated to the dynamics and needs of refugee children within their areas
  • Good working knowledge of the community needs and gaps
  • Ability to work with members of the community with little or no supervision
  • Computer literacy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong counselling skills
  • Strong training skills in child protection and community development will be an added advantage
  • age ience in the field of refugee Child Protection will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP)
  • Knowledge of Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)
  • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili, Kinyamulenge, Kirundi, Kinyarwanda, Luganda, Dinka, Nuer or French languages.
  • Locations – Kitengela, Githurai, Kasarani, Kawangware, Kayole
