Elsewhere in other results, AFC Leopards’ struggles continued as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Muhoroni Youth while in Homabay, Kenya Police FC scored a 94th minute equalizer as they played to a 1-1 draw with Shabana FC.

In Mombasa, Abdallah Hassan’s first half freekick was enough to give Bandari FC a 1-0 win over Tusker FC while in Bungoma, Nzoia Sugar and Bidco United played to a 1-1 draw.

At the Bukhungu Stadium, Homeboyz picked the biggest win on Saturday with an assured first half display, taking advantage of the Brewers’ poor start to the match.

They got ahead after just three minutes when Ambrose Sifuna picked the ball unmarked on the right before shooting low past Brian Bwire. The alarm bells had been off for Tusker from the first minute as Sifuna had another grass cutter fly marginally out.

The brewers, missing head coach Robert Matano on the touchline due to a family bereavement were in sixes and sevens and struggled to knit passes together and keep possession.

They conceded the second in the 17th minute when Moses Shummah headed home unmarked after Kevin Amwayi curled back a cross into the area when he raced to collect Eston Esiye’s overhit freekick on the left.

Tusker’s day went from bad to worse when defender and captain Charles Momanyi hobbled off injured and was replaced by Eugene Asike.

The former captain, making a return to the team after a year and a half almost made a remarkable comeback as he flicked Deogratious Ojok’s cross on target on the other end, but the Homeboyz keeper made a clean save.

In the second half, with the heavens opening up, Tusker tried to pile in the pressure. They were rewarded in the 71st minute when Eric Zakayo’s cross curled into the bottom right corner, a communication error between the keeper and his defender rewarding Tusker with the equalizer.

Despite efforts to race back into contention, Homeboyz defended well and wasted enough time while at it, to ensure they got their season off to a proper start, having lost their opening match of the campaign.
