Bahir Dar City finished second in the 2022/23 Betking Ethiopia Premier League with an impressive performance under the tutelage of coach Degeareg Yigzaw.
The Tana Waves were fighting to avoid relegation in the 2021/22 season, but they ended the 2022/23 season as runners-up to the champions, St George.
This has earned them the opportunity to represent Ethiopia in the CAF Confederation Cup where they have been paired with Tanzania's Azam in a preliminary round.
They will once again be led by Yigzaw, who played a major role in ensuring the team's success.
"We had a tough, but a very good season."
The team has a list of accomplishments to be be proud of, the coach said.
"We finished second in the League, earned the right to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup and had eight players selected for the national team, while three of our players have been nominated for the star of the year award."
"SuperSport also selected three of our players in their best 11 of the season."
Degeraeg said that the role of the fans in the team's success was enormous.
"The fans of our club are amazing. I am proud to be a coach of this team."
"It's a pleasure to see our team being loved and supported throughout the country. I would like to thank the fans for their unwavering support."
Degeraeg was included in the coaching squad of the Ethiopian national team and led the team with instructor Daniel Gebremariam.
He said he was proud to have the opportunity to coach the national team.
"I am proud to have been given the opportunity to serve my country. That is the dream of any coach and I hope I will be able to serve my country again."
