University of Nairobi Terrorists coach Eugene Genga believes their first Kenya National Basketball League win of the season against Strathmore University Blades will be the turning point for the students.

Terrorists torched fellow students 59-38 to end a three-match losing streak.

Genga noted that Strathmore play a physical game and he was, therefore, glad that his players adjusted well to post a positive result.

“Strathmore swept us last year and it was good to kickstart our season against them,” says Genga. “We played well unlike against Ulinzi, especially in the second half.”

UoN had a blast in the third quarter running Blades rugged as they took a strong 20-5 advantage that made all the difference in this tie.

“(Malcolm) Ajulu and Morgan (Niva) played well for us during that stretch which made the difference. There is no pressure, I am just glad we won,” added Genga.

His counterpart, Tony Ochieng moaned the loss, saying: “We missed 28 easy shots under the rim. Scoring just nine points in two quarters showed how bad we were.”

“I think my boys were overconfident as we had good training and our match-up is good. We must polish up things and keep working hard before our next game in two weeks.”

The Terrorists had on Friday lost 54-33 to former national champions Ulinzi Warriors.

“Their physical play overpowered us as we led by eight points at half time. One of my big men was injured and my point guard was in foul trouble most of the game so it was hard to make adjustments,” Genga said of the loss.

Kenyatta University Pirates also recorded their first win of the season, beating the visiting Platinum Eldonets 61-56. They are ninth on the log with six points from five games.
