Former Roots Party running mate Justina Wamae now says that what Kenya lacks to successfully empower the youth is political goodwill.

She insisted that land is one of the things Kenyan youths lack, which has turned out to be a big hindrance to them accessing capital.

This capital, according to Wamae, could be used to boost existing businesses.

"Land as a factor of production is something the youth don't have, hence cannot get seed capital or capital to boost existing business. What we lack in this country is political goodwill," she said on Tuesday.

Wamae was reacting to a video of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu explaining how she has empowered the youth and women in her country.

Suluhu says her government has set aside about 680,000 hectares for the youths and young women to engage in farming. 

She has also set up a trust fund to help with farm inputs and supplies to the youth. Each of them will get 10 hectares for farming.

Justina Wamae commended the Tanzanian President for the move, saying that she had suggested it during their campaigns in the run-up to the August 2022 general election.

She had suggested that they would set aside 200,000 acres across all 47 counties where the youth would farm and sell their produce to make money.
