The Ministry of Education has announced the revised school academic calendar for 2023.

In a circular to all education officials across the country, the Ministry of Education has capped the first term at 13 weeks, the second at 14 weeks, and the third term at only 9 weeks.

The first term began yesterday, January 23, and runs up to April 21.

In the communique, PS Belio Kipsang says there will be a three-day mid-term break from March 16 to March 19.

The schools will then break after the first term from April 22 up to May 7.

This year’s second term, which is the longest term in an academic calendar, will run effectively from May 8 until August 11.

The learners will break for a half-term on June 29 to July 2.

After the second term, schools will close from August 12 up to August 27.

The final term will run from August 28 up to October 27, a few days before national examinations kick-off. Being the shortest term of the year, there will be no break for the learners.

Learners who are not sitting for national examinations will go on a 10-week holiday beginning October 28 and ending January 8.

Final KCPE candidates and Grade Six learners will sit for their national tests for four days starting October 30 up to November 2.

The next day, November 3, KCSE examinations will begin and run up to November 24.

The ministry also says the marking of the national examinations will be over by December 15.
