Vihiga Queens' head coach Nyamunyamu said teamwork and a solid defence were key to his team's 3-1 win over Kibera Soccer Women at Dagoretti High School.
Champions Vihiga are enjoying life in the early stages of the new season, having opened their title defence with a 2-1 victory over Ulinzi Starlets the previous weekend.
Nyamunyamu said: "Everyone in the team did their part to contribute to today's win; from the goalkeeping to midfield and defence. We encouraged and motivated our defenders to be solid in the game."
Despite the perfect start, Nyamunyamu said they must remain focused.
"The season has just begun and the league is still very young. I am trying to motivate the players to ensure that they remain glued to our target of retaining the WPL title," he added.
However, the win was not without its fair share of challenges for the four-time Kenyan champions.
"Our main challenge today was the wind, which worked against our highballs. We couldn't get the ball the way we wanted and I believe that's why the opponents were able to score," he concluded.
Tumaini Waliaula netted a brace for Vihiga in the 14th and 84th minutes while Janet Moraa was on target in the 25th minute. Nancy Atako had given the losers a first-minute lead.
In another match, Bunyore Starlets registered their second win of the season with a convincing 4-0 victory over Trans Nzoia Falcons at Mumboha Grounds.
Airin Madalina netted a brace for the home side with Agnes Olesi, Noel Shilachilo adding a goal each.
On Saturday, Ulinzi Starlets bounced back to winning way with a 3-0 upset against Wadadia at Ulinzi Sports Complex.
Goals from Lucy Nato, Neddy Akoth and Lavender Akinyi made the difference.
Kenya Police Bullets started their life in the topflight, torching Bungoma Queens 5-2 at Police Sacco Stadium.
Meanwhile, Nakuru City Queens secured a 2-1 victory against the hosts Zetech Sparks in Ruiru.
