Ulinzi coach Nickson Oyaro has affirmed that the team is ready to start their Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league on a high note.
The soldiers open their league campaign at Nyayo Stadium this weekend with two matches on the card. They tackle Inspired this Friday and the debutant National Youth Service (NYS) on Saturday.
“We have trained well for three weeks and we are ready for the new season. We hope we will start the season on a high note,” said Oyaro.
“We want to improve on our last performance where we were second. We have been working hard to rectify our mistakes and see if we can lift both the league and the Super Cup,” he added.
He said he has not made any recruitment but will be looking around for standout players during the league and see if they can bring new faces as the season progresses.
"I have not added any new players to the team. But I will be observing keenly the performances of some players in the league with a view of making approaches.”
The soldiers, who lost the national title to rivals National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in a close fight turned the tables by claiming the Super Cup.
Other matches on Saturday will see Wakanda, who missed their opening matches last week, play champions National Cereals and Produce Board and Black Mamba.
NCPB and Mamba posted good wins in their weekend matches and Wakanda will have it rough against two of the top teams in the land. In another tie, Inspired meet Daystar Unversity.
Women champion Nairobi Water Queens who roared to two easy wins over NYS and Daystar University, sinking 94 goals against 31, entertain Mountain View, who also play the students.
In another women's match, Ulinzi Sharks will face Mountain Queen while Meldine Akoth’s Daystar University have a date with NYS.
On Sunday, Wakanda will face another newcomer in Equity Bank and General Service Unit (GSU), 40-21 victors over Inspired, confront Engineers.
