Apple Wallet is expanding its digital ID feature as Arkansas and Virginia become the latest states to commit to offering iPhone driver’s licenses. This means residents will soon be able to add their state-issued IDs to the Wallet app on iPhone and Apple Watch, making airport security checks and age verification faster and more convenient. For many, this is the next step in a fully digital lifestyle, though physical IDs remain necessary for most legal purposes.
Adding your driver’s license or state ID to Apple Wallet is simple. Open the Wallet app, tap the plus (+) sign, select Driver’s License and ID Cards, and follow the prompts. Once added, your digital ID can be used at participating TSA checkpoints in over 250 U.S. airports, allowing quicker domestic travel without fumbling for a physical ID.
Prior to Arkansas and Virginia, 13 U.S. states already support Apple Wallet IDs, including Illinois, Connecticut, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Utah. Arkansas and Virginia plan to integrate Apple Wallet support soon, following the launch of their mobile ID apps. This shows growing adoption of mobile ID technology across the country, signaling a shift toward digital-first identification.
