Kipyegon won her semi-final in a time of 3:55.14, a bit faster than the time she required to get through the Heats on Saturday.
The 29-year old world record holder now remains on course for a third world title, and she is expected to bring her A game into the final.
Ethiopian Diribe Welteji finished second in 3:55.18, while Sifan Hassan, still nursing wounds from her fall in the 10,000m final on Saturday, finished third in 3:55.48, her fastest time over that distance this season, to also make the final.
Kipyegon had started off the back of the pack, but she didn’t stay there long as she sprinted to the front after the first curve.
She maintained the tempo to the end and when Hassan attempted to attack her at the bell, she resisted, putting on a good surge of pace.
She will be joined in the final by youngster Nelly Chepchirchir who also bossed her semi-final, winning comfortably in a time of 4:02.14, ahead of Ethiopian teenager Birke Haylom who clocked 4:02.46.
Edinah Jebitok finished a dissapiinting 10th, clocking 4:05.41.
