A bizarre incident was witnessed in Rachuonyo North, Homa Bay County on Thursday after students of Otok Mixed Secondary School reportedly assaulted approximately 10 people who had stormed the institution to drive out the school's principal.
Three persons, among them the school's Parents Association chairperson Joshua Ochieng, have been arrested in connection to the incident and are helping police with investigations.
The three, who are currently being held at Kendu Bay Police Station, are accused of mobilising the mob that forcefully entered the school's premises to oust the institution's recently instated principal, Jackton Ogaga.
According to Sub-county Police Commander Lydia Parteiyie, the students started pelting the mob with stones after noticing that they were assaulting their teacher.
The mob responded in a similar fashion bringing operations at the school to a standstill but they were eventually overpowered by the students who drove them away.
Normal operations resumed soon after with the students returning back to their classes.
They accused the mob of interfering with the school’s affairs saying most of the persons who stormed the school were not parents.
Assistant chief of Kogweno Oriang’ West Sub Location Faraja Malit Said that the school's principal sustained serious injuries on the head after he was hit by a stone during the fracas and was rushed to hospital.
