Kenya Railways (KR) plans to implement cashless ticketing on its Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) service beginning February 1, 2022.
According to a statement issued by KR on Wednesday, passengers will no longer be able to pay for tickets at all Madaraka Express Passenger Service Stations on the aforementioned date and will be required to use cashless at all service points.
Customers have been advised to use M-Pesa, debit, or credit cards to pay.
Until now, the SGR operates two pairs of trains between Nairobi and Mombasa, with departures at 8 a.m., 3 p.m., and 10 p.m.
First-rate coaches cost Ksh.3000 for adults and Ksh.1500 for children aged 3 to 11.
The Economy coach costs Ksh.1000 per adult trip and Ksh.500 for children aged 3 to 11.
