Argentina suffered a major Rugby World Cup blow on Wednesday when veteran prop forward Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro was ruled out of the tournament after rupturing his Achilles tendon, the country's federation said.
Tetaz Chaparro, 34, who plays with Treviso in Italy and is a veteran of the 2015 and 2019 global showpieces, suffered the injury during a Pumas' pre-World Cup training camp at Faro in Portugal.
Argentina begin their World Cup campaign against England in Marseille on 9 September before taking on Japan, Samoa and Chile in their other Pool D fixtures.
Coach Michael Cheika called up Mayco Vivas and Lucio Sordoni as replacement players for the Faro camp.
The Pumas face Spain in Madrid on Saturday in a warm-up match.
