Police in Nyamira county have launched investigations into an accident where Manga Sub-county Criminal Investigation Officer Isaac Biaka died after allegedly falling off a cliff, sustaining a deep cut on his head and a cracked skull.

According to Nyamira county police commander Kimani Mitugo, Biaka and a colleague left the office and went to the nearby cliff to smoke cigarettes but the other officer went back to the office, leaving Biaka behind.

Shortly after, screams from a woman who was collecting firewood down the cliff were heard, which drew the attention of fellow officers at Manga Sub-county police headquarters and residents who rushed to the scene and found the officer dead.

The Nyamira County commander said the officer may have slipped after they identified a sliding mark at the place he was smoking.

The body was taken to Nyamira Referral Hospital awaiting a postmortem examination.
