Nzoia Sugar have opted out of the 2023 FKF Cup over financial constraints, preferring to channel the little resources at their disposal towards sustaining their FKF Premier League activities.
The Sugar Millers currently lead the league standings after a brilliant start to the campaign and Team Manager John Muraya says they want to focus on challenging for what would be a maiden league title.
"We are facing financial problems and thus managing the clubs activities is becoming a huge problem. We don't have money and looking at FKF-PL fixtures, playing twice a week, we don't want to burden this boys, we want to concentrate on chasing the League title," Muraya told
Meanwhile, other six Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-FPL) clubs and a further 10 from the National Super League (NSL) failed to register for the 2023 edition of the FKF Cup that is primed for Saturday 11 February kick off.
Posta Rangers, Nairobi City Stars, FC Talanta, Wazito, Vihiga Bullets and Mathare United are the six Premier League clubs that will not take part in the competition this year.
In Division One, the number of clubs participating are only six and include Equity FC, Rainbow FC, Zetech Titans, Nyota FC, Sigalagala FC, and Luanda Villa.
Further down the football pyramid in the Regional Leagues Dero FC, Shalimar, Scarlet FC, Karatina Homeboyz, Bucks FC, Vickers FC, and Marula FC will enter the Round of 64.
