At least 11 vehicles, among them trucks, were Saturday impounded in Keroka, Nyamira County during a sting operation by the National Transport Safety Authorities and security agencies.
NTSA South Nyanza region chief Aden Adow said the crackdown was meant to enforce compliance among motorists plying Kisii - Nairobi route.
"We want to ensure there is maximum compliance so as to stem lawlessness on the roads, especially during this festive season," Adow said.
He spoke as ten people got killed in Migori in a gory Saturday morning accident.
The grisly accident occurred when a lorry transporting rice rammed into pedestrians and bodabodas.
Three others people were critically injured and rushed to the hospital.
Adow said regular similar operations would be done.
"We all have a role to play to ensure accidents are minimised," Adow stated.
Masaba South Sub-County police boss Ndambiri said it was unfortunate that some motorists drive while drunk.
At least 900 people have died since January across the country.
