Why Microsoft shut down its Movies and TV store

The Movies & TV store, which evolved through Zune, Xbox Video, and finally into the current app in 2015, never quite became a dominant digital marketplace like Apple TV or Amazon Prime Video. What happens to your purchased content now?

If you've bought movies or TV shows through Microsoft, don’t worry—you’re not losing them. All existing purchases will remain available and downloadable in HD through the Movies & TV app. However, playback is limited to Windows and Xbox platforms, unless your content is eligible for Movies Anywhere (for users in the U.S.). Microsoft won’t issue refunds, but it will continue to support content playback and maintain the servers for the foreseeable future. This ensures you can still enjoy your library without disruptions, as long as you stick to Microsoft’s ecosystem.
