Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard wants to leave his current club, according to Fabrizio Romano, with Manchester United having seen a bid rejected.
Erik ten Hag's side are on the search for defensive reinforcements, with centre-back seen as a priority area for improvement amid the impending departure of Harry Maguire to West Ham.
The Hammers have agreed a £30 million fee with United for the England centre-back.
However, according to The Sun, talks over personal terms have stalled, due to United having to part-fund the defender's wages if he does move to the London Stadium.
That could put United's transfer plans in limbo, but given they have already accepted a bid for the 29-year-old, they may look to press on with incomings regardless and allow Maguire to leave should another club launch a bid.And the incoming in question appears to be Pavard.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United have had an opening bid rejected by Bayern Munich for Pavard.
The France international started at right-back during Bayern's 3-0 DFL Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig on Saturday, but was booked early on and then substituted at half-time.
With the German giants having splashed out €100 million to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham, there may be some balancing of the books required.
And Romano claims that Pavard has told the club that he wants to leave this summer.
He wrote: "Bayern rejected United first approach for Benjamin Pavard, as reported on Saturday."But Man United remain there as Pavard wants the move. He won't sign new deal at Bayern and insists to leave."
Pavard's contract at the Allianz Arena expires at the end of this season - and the Frenchman's situation is one that has been heavily tracked by United scouts amid reports of a new transfer strategy.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag's side are now actively targeting players who are entering the final 12 months of their deals, as seen with the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea, with Pavard fitting the bill in that respect.
