A man from Ilikoni village in Makueni county died on Wednesday evening following an attack by an elephant.
Patrick Musili Musembi was attacked on his way home from work at around 8.30pm.
This is the second incident in the area, with another death happening in 2021 in which a man was attacked in the village.
Residents have called on the authorities to intervene to ensure cases of human-wildlife conflict are dealt with.
They lamented that Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers take long to respond to distress calls.
One resident who sought anonymity said, "The officers arrived at the scene four hours after we reported the incident. We need faster response when such cases are reported. We feel neglected because I think the officers may have taken a shorter time to arrive at the scene had it been the elephant which had died."
Recently, the government announced that victims of human-wildlife conflict in Makueni would receive compensation from March. The announcement was made by Tourism and Wildlife CS Peninah Malonza after a meeting with Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr.
