A Liquefied Petroleum Gas facility along Thika Road has been indefinitely closed down as the nationwide registration exercise for LPG and petroleum business continues.

Energy Petroleum and Regulation Authority (EPRA) said the facility had failed to abide by the rules, resulting in its closure.

“The facility was shut down for failure to comply with the LPG Regulations of 2019,” EPRA noted in a tweet.

EPRA said that the ongoing Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) inspections are geared towards ensuring consumer and public safety on petroleum products.

The registration exercise drive started on April 3 and will be going on till April 14.

It will be conducted in all sub-counties by National Government Administration Officers (NGAOS) in collaboration with the Energy and Petroleum Regulation Authority (EPRA).

On March 29, 2023, Interior PS Raymond Omollo and his Petroleum counterpart Mohammed Liban said the exercise will involve data and information collected from all LPG and petroleum businesses.

They also added that petroleum dealers and traders' businesses will be shut down for failure to participate in the registration exercise.

"Upon expiry of the registration period, all unregistered LPG and petroleum businesses will be deemed to be non-operational," the PSs said.

"The exercise will help to ensure that all LPG and petroleum operators are compliant with safety regulations, thereby minimizing the risk of accidents and protecting the public," they added.

EPRA has also appealed to the public to volunteer information on individuals operating the illegal sites through their hotline number or email.
