Universities' academic staff have termed a move to declare lecturers redundant as unrealistic.
Through their umbrella union, UASU said if their demands are not met before April 10 they will take the next action.
UASU secretary general Constantine Wasonga said lectures can not be redundant.
“How can you declare an education person, somebody who is paid to think to be redundant?” Wasonga paused.
On the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wasonga demanded that lecturers be treated like other civil servants.
“Uasu, KUSU and Kudheiha will not negotiate maternity leave like other unions did,” he said.
They can not tell public universities to sign a CBA with maternity leave and zero financial benefits.
Wasonga added that government should facilitate negotiations for the 2021-2025 CBA early enough.
This he said would ensure the agreement is factored into the budgetary estimations for the financial year 2023-2024.
“That failure to which all employees of public universities will be forced to resort to other available means to reclaim their long lost dignity,” he added.
