Four students from Kijabe Boys High School were arrested for allegedly starting a fire that burnt down one of the school's dormitories only one week after schools reopened.
The fire destroyed property including personal belongings of about 100 students residing in the dormitory.
Lari Deputy County Commissioner Samuel Kariuki said a probe into the incident was underway and that the Ministry of Education will give a comprehensive report on the matter.
“I am very clear... Anything concerning the ministry, the Education Ministry will handle. We have not exhausted the investigation so I don’t have anything to say,” DCC Kariuki said.
Parents present at the scene blamed the school principal over similar fire occurrences further calling for his immediate transfer.
“Kuna wanafunzi wanne ambao wameshikwa leo na wako on suspect na tungeomba uchunguzi uendelee. The principal of this school hii ni mara ya pili sijui mara ya tatu,” Viginia Wambui, a parent said.
“Wanafunzi wanakimbia huku an huku wakishuka na wakipanda... sijui wanajificha nini. Tunaomba serikali na education ministry to transfer this teacher... hii shule iko very expensive.”
This is the seventh fire incident at the school.
