Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has been banned from driving after failing to name the driver when his car was caught speeding.
The incident in question happened in August 2022, with Lingard's Range Rover flashed by a speed camera on the A56 in Trafford.
The England international then received a speeding notice, with his lawyer claiming he missed the important letter as it was sent to his old address in Altrincham, Greater Manchester and he had temporarily moved to Nottingham after signing for Nottingham Forest on a one-year deal.At a brief hearing on Friday, Frank Rogers told the court: "He was at the time of the speeding offence living in rented accommodation in Nottingham, where he was then playing. The documents went out to his then permanent address, in Altrincham.
"Mr Lingard has accepted that the system in place at that time just was not good enough to protect him and deal with processing his mail.
"So when the speeding offence was committed in August last year in Stretford, Mr Lingard was in Nottingham. He was not the driver."Nonetheless, Lingard, who appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court, pled guilty and was forced to pay a fine of £900 - as well as an additional £565 in court costs.However, he was also banned from getting behind the wheel for six months as a result of the "totting up process".
According to the BBC, District Judge Jane Hamilton said there was scope to disqualify him because of two previous speeding offences where he was handed points on his licence.
The 30-year-old left United last summer and signed a short-term deal with Forest, becoming their highest-earner ahead of their return to the Premier League.
