Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has warned that any individual who attempts to illegally access security and government establishments in any part of the country will be dealt with ruthlessly.

In a press briefing on Thursday, Kindiki warned the public and politicians against threatening officers on duty at government installations, terming it impunity.

"I direct all security agencies to ensure that our security facilities remain protected areas and should not be allowed to become a theatre for politics or rowdy and unlawful behaviour including unauthorised access," he stated.

The CS cited the incident where Azimio leader Raila Odinga attempted to access the DCI headquarters on Tuesday, March 7 causing a scene at the entrance where he had been blocked by security officers.

"Some politicians, ostensibly going to provide political solidarity to Dr Matiang’i, caused disturbances including threats to mobilise people to forcibly access the DCI headquarters,” mentioned Kindiki.

He added: "Going forward, any person regardless of their rank in society who threatens to forcibly access security facilities or intimidate officers on duty will be dealt with firmly, ruthlessly and decisively in accordance with the law."

Former Interior CS Fred Matiang'i had been summoned to record a statement over an alleged raid on his Karen home. After being denied access to the DCI offices, Odinga was heard lamenting that it was his right to access the premises citing that it’s a public office.

“This is a public office. You want me to order these people to open the gate by force. I have a right to go see the director. I have a right to go inside,” said Odinga.

This comes just hours before planned mass action against the government by Azimio leaders in Kisumu on Friday where they are expected to march to the county commissioner's office before taking to the streets.

The Interior CS added that the government will not interfere with the different institutions in the criminal justice system discharging their duties as regards the Matiang’i investigation

“This is a major departure from how the police have treated suspects under the previous administration especially if these persons were politically exposed,” said the CS.

Kindiki also stated that he will Friday issue a comprehensive statement giving an update on the on going operation in parts of six north-rift counties termed dangerous and disturbed.
