Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said he has received over 200 Harambe invites since his frozen money was released.

Speaking during the post-election seminar in Mombasa, Gachagua said everybody has been planning for his money as it seems to be a huge amount.

"This morning I have received more than 200 invitations to attend harambees. The Uhuru government had taken my money and it was released yesterday. Now everybody is planning for that money. Kila mtu ananialika Harambee because it sounds like a lot of money. Because I am a son of Mau Mau, the Mau Mau people have said it's their money," he said. 

Gachaga said though the money has been released, he is yet to have it.

The Asset Recovery Agency had obtained new evidence to prove that Gachagua's Sh200 million forfeited to the state belongs to him.

ARA said the money is not proceeds of crime and wants the same released to the DP. 

The Agency claims the evidence they currently have 'satisfactorily explains the source and legitimacy of the funds in issue and it is satisfied that the same is not proceeds of crime as was initially perceived.'

ARA says on November 14, 2022, it conducted investigations on its own motion and sought information from five entities which Gachagau claimed to have obtained the funds in dispute from.

Justice Esther Maina had on July 28, 2022, found the money to be proceeds of crime.
