In a statement on Workspace Updates blogs on Tuesday, the new proofreading tool will replace the widely used spellcheck and grammar check functions.
Along with grammatical and spelling checks, this AI-powered Google Docs proofreading tool analyses your documents and offers sophisticated recommendations for how to make them clearer and shorter.
“Today, we’re introducing the next generation of writing suggestions, powered by AI: Proofread,” read the statement.
“In addition to spelling and grammar, Proofread will provide a list of suggestions you can review and accept, including: Conciseness they are suggestions for making your writing more concise,” it added.
“Active voice: Suggestions for making your writing clearer to readers, Wording: Suggestions for making words sound more dynamic or formal in context. Sentence Split: Suggestions for splitting up complex sentences to make your writing easier to read.”
This feature will initially be turned ON for the end user and can be disabled in Docs by heading to Tools > Proofread.
By clicking on the A and check icons, you can display the Proofread sidebar. A blue dot will appear next to this icon if your paper has writing suggestions.
“These suggestions are non-intrusive and won’t clutter your document as you compose and collaborate you can easily review all suggestions directly from the Proofread sidebar whenever you’re ready and decide which suggestions are most appropriate for you to accept.
The technology, which is accessible as an add-on for the company’s Duet AI product, is presently only available to Google Workspace Enterprise users.
