Four young teens have been arrested after two TTC employees were assaulted on a Scarborough bus Monday afternoon in an attack described as a “despicable swarming.”
The incident happened after 3 p.m. on a TTC bus near Kennedy subway station, near Kennedy and Merrian roads, when a group of 10 to 15 youths assaulted the two uniformed employees.
Toronto police said the bus operators were about to make a driver change when the incident occurred.
The group of youths fled the scene before police officers arrived. The TTC workers sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Two 13-year-old suspects have each been charged with one count of assault, while the remaining two each face two counts of assault. They are to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Tuesday, March 21.
Torono Mayor John Tory called for witnesses to the assault, which came less than 48 hours after a TTC bus driver was shot with a BB gun in Scarborough on Saturday.
“We have to put an end to these acts of violence and disrespect against transit workers,” tweeted Tory.
