Peter Drury has revealed the one thing he "hates" about football and confirmed that he would be informing Roy Keane.
Drury has become Sky Sports' new commentator for the 2023/24 season, taking over from Martin Tyler in the gantry.
Drury's voice is synonymous with the beautiful game, and he has established a cult following of fans around the world for his literate and, at times, poetic descriptions of football.
The 55-year-old's enthusiasm and total love for the game shines through. But there is one aspect of football he is not so keen on, and Drury is eager to knock it out of Keane too.
In an exclusive interview with SPORTbible, Drury was asked what he was most excited about working alongside Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, to which he jokingly replied, "Who?" before admitting he was "excited" to call them teammates.
"Who'd have thought that back in the day that they would call each other teammates," he added.
However, Drury has a bone to pick with brand new colleague Keane, and quipped that he would be picking the former Manchester United defender up on his angry rants. Drury stressed the importance of not taking the game too seriously, insisting that it is "meant to be fun".
"It's a lot of fun," he added. "We sometimes get these things terribly out of control mentally and get deeply serious, but it's supposed to be fun. Football is meant to be fun.
"I know we all care whenever our team wins or loses, but if there's one thing I hate in football it's anger. I'll be telling that to Roy Keane!"
He continued: "We're here to smile, you know. We're here because it's an escape and I hope once I've settled down I'll be able to escape."
Keane is well known for his no-nonsense approach to football both on the field and in the studio. From chasing a referee around the pitch, to notorious rants as a pundit, he has often left viewers in stitches.
