Team Kenya cyclists Daniel Kiptala and Billy Graham finished 12th and 23rd respectively in the individual time trials on Day One of the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.
The results left Kenya second in Africa behind South Africa but ahead of Namibia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Ghana.
The duo is scheduled to compete in the road race on Monday.
Graham said: "Our main challenge today was the fluctuating weather conditions, with the high temperatures and rains affecting our rhythm. I had to make sure I paced myself to avoid accidents and injuries, especially with the road race coming on Monday. I am confident that I will deliver improved results."
Meanwhile, the girls' beach volleyball duo of Abigael Chebet and Sharon Jepkosgei stunned Bermuda 2-0 to win their opening match at the Youth Club Games.
Their next match in Group 'A' is against hosts Trinidad and Tobago at the Black Rock Facility.
