Chrome iOS Account Switching Rolls Out for Enterprise Users
Google Chrome has officially launched profile switching on iOS—but only for users with managed enterprise accounts. The new Chrome iOS account switching feature makes it easier for employees to keep work and personal data separate. With just two taps, users can now toggle between professional and personal browsing profiles, similar to the desktop version of Chrome. However, this flexibility is currently limited to those enrolled in Chrome Enterprise, leaving regular users without access to seamless multi-account use on mobile.
How Chrome iOS Account Switching Works
Once a company sets up Chrome Enterprise for its staff, employees using iPhones or iPads can sign in to both their personal and work Google accounts. Chrome users can switch between these profiles by tapping their profile icon in the browser and selecting the other account—an experience designed to mirror desktop functionality. Chrome keeps tabs, browsing history, saved passwords, and cookies separated, ensuring work-related content doesn't spill into personal browsing and vice versa. This division also gives IT administrators control over the work profile, allowing them to monitor security reports and enforce browsing restrictions.
Why Enterprise Users Benefit the Most
Unlike Android, which supports full-device work profiles, iOS is gaining a more browser-specific solution with Chrome. The feature helps organizations maintain digital hygiene, especially in a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) setup. While Android users get a dedicated work version of Chrome as part of the system-level profile, iOS users gain the advantage of switching between accounts without launching a separate app instance. It's worth noting that Chrome on mobile doesn’t yet allow seamless switching between non-enterprise Google accounts—another limitation that differentiates the mobile experience from desktop browsers.
No Free-for-All: Chrome iOS Keeps Feature Enterprise-Only
For now, Google has drawn a hard line: only managed enterprise accounts can enjoy this convenient profile switch on iOS. Regular users who hoped for the same multitasking convenience available on desktop Chrome will have to wait—or rely on workarounds like using multiple browsers. While it may seem restrictive, the move aligns with Google's goal of enhancing enterprise productivity and security on mobile devices. With remote work on the rise, features like this could become essential—just not universally available yet.
