A Chinese National accused of attacking a security guard who prevented his wife from damaging a vehicle that dropped her at an apartment has been charged in court.
Xu Wen Liang was charged with beating up William Welet Mette occasioning him thigh-related injuries on March 26 at Dennis Gardens Apartment Kilimani in Dagoretti Sub-county within Nairobi County.
The accused person pleaded guilty before Kibera Principal Magistrate Monica Maroro where he pleaded guilty to the charges.
While reading the court facts, court prosecutor Brenda Omari told the court that the complainant was at his place of work where the accused person stays.
“The accused person came down the stairs and beat him up but prior to that, the taxi driver had dropped a female client at the apartment who happens to be the accused person’s wife,” Maiyo told the court.
The court heard that the woman appeared highly intoxicated and was quarrelling with the taxi driver over his payment and when the complainant asked the driver to leave, the woman started issuing threats.
Maiyo told the court that the Chinese National attacked the complainant as he was trying to calm the situation.
“When the complainant in the case was trying to calm the situation and contain her from making any damages to the vehicle, the accused person came down and before asking what the problem is attacked the complainant hitting him in the thighs. When he learnt that the complainant was innocent, he asked for forgiveness."
The accused person however in his mitigation asked the court for forgiveness and pleaded for a lenient sentence.
He was ordered to pay a fine of Sh10,000 or serve four months in jail.
