Jane Marriot, the British High Commissioner held a session with Kenyan musicians and influencers to discuss issues of food security in the country.
The session, according to those invited, explored how content creators can use their platforms to amplify key messages on initiatives tackling food security.
Those who attended were top influencer Azziad Nasenya, rapper Kennedy Ombima (King Kaka) Sauti Sol's Delvin Mudigi (Savara), comedian Timothy Kimani (Njugush), and TikToker Salim Gori (Dance General) among others.
"Advocacy can indeed contribute to progressive change and content creators can use their platforms for good," TikTok star Azziad wrote in an Instagram post.
“We discussed food security and possible solutions. Great session,” said King Kaka in a statement.
More than 5.3 million Kenyans are facing starvation in 31 counties across the country, while livelihoods worth Ksh.191 billion ($1.5 billion) have been lost in the last year.
The drought situation in the country due to failed rains have exposed a lot of Kenyan families to food insecurity.
The government is currently trying to fundraise to help fund the drought mitigation programs.
“We need at least Ksh.57.36 billion for short-term and midterm programmes, which will be gradually implemented until October 2023. In an effort to make food more affordable, we have also subsidised production by availing farm inputs at cheaper rates,” DP said.
