Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration for alleging that the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio leader Raila Odinga stole public funds rendering the government bankrupt.
Mbui said Kenyans were tired of the claims terming them mere excuses after failing to effectively run the government and deliver necessary services to Kenyans as expected.
“Each time they are asked, they say Uhuru and Raila stole money. Kama waliiba si washikwe na washtakiwe? Polisi ni wako, DPP ni wako, DCI ni wako, halafu unatuambia eti Raila na Uhuru waliiba. Raila na Uhuru ni wakenya. Kama wako na hatia, washikeni,” Mbui said.
He addressed mourners during a burial ceremony at his constituency in Machakos County on Monday.
The legislator was accompanied by several leaders, among them Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kamene and Senator Agnes Kavindu.
“Lakini mnyamaze kwa sababu nyinyi mmechukua uongozi na imewashinda (You should shut up because you got to power but you are unable to offer leadership),” Mbui said.
Mbai also took on deputy president Rigathi Gachagua head-on saying he should cease talking too much.
“As a leader, you need to give people hope. But, if he speaks, he says the government has no funds. We are wondering as MPs, we haven’t been paid our salaries,” Mbai said.
He said some county assemblies had opted to pay their workers’ salaries using bank loans and not money from the government’s treasury.
Mbai said the cost of living won’t be discussed in the bipartisan talks arguing that the issue was on government leadership.
“So, I insist that the issue of reducing costs of living, maize flour, fuel, electricity and school fees is in their hands. We won’t discuss it in that committee
"What’s important is that them as Kenya Kwanza administration should do what we told them, reduce costs of living,” Mbui said.
He said they as Azimio's leadership didn’t understand why the Kenya Kwanza administration was worried when told to open IEBC servers.
“If you tell me to open servers for the Kathiani constituency, I will say it be opened because I’m sure I won the elections and the server will show that I won. But, if you are told to open servers, you claim it’s half the bread we are asking," he said.
"Kenyans have heard of our demands as Azimio, we haven’t asked for a grand coalition government or handshake. If you won the elections, open the servers. If we won, get out of office,” Mbui added.
Mbui said Azimio leaders will keep quiet if the servers are opened and confirm that Kenya Kwanza won the August 9, 2022, presidential elections.
