As Cape Town Spurs prepare for another Western Cape Derby this coming weekend, the clubs' DStv Diski Challenge coach Tyren Arendse has urged his players to maintain consistency and collect maximum points.

This will be Spurs' fifth match since the new season started. They started with a convincing 2-0 win over fellow Cape Town mates, Cape Town City to claim the derby bragging rights.

That result was followed by two defeats, 1-0 to TS Galaxy and 4-2 against Royal AM. However, last Sunday, Spurs turned around the tables with one of the best performances of the season so far to thump AmaZulu 7-0.

Luke “Boere” Baartman was the star of the show when they embarrassed Usuthu, scoring three goals while the other four came from Sherwin Abrahams [brace], Faiz Abrams and Clyde Combi.

The 17-year-old Baartman, who, has scored five goals in four Diski Challenge games will be tasked to carry Spurs on his shoulders again this weekend when they visit Stellenbosch FC in a Western Cape Derby at Idas Valley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

In their first derby against CT City, Boere scored a brace, which saw them collect all three points.

Talking to the website, Spurs coach insisted that they have a way of playing against any opposition, they only need to improve when it comes to consistency.

''I would like to believe that we started the season well and so far, we are still within our plan. The only thing lacking is consistency,'' acknowledged Arendse.

“We got a great relief from the AmaZulu win and now the new challenge is to be better in our next match against Stellenbosch.

“We need to claim the derby bragging rights again. That would be good for the boys, and it will go a long way in boosting their morale.”

Arendse, the former Santos player retired from playing football in 2018. The 42-year-old mentor is coaching in the Reserve for the first time, and he has predicted an interesting season. He believes Spurs also stand a chance to be counted among top teams if they avoid complacency.
