Amazon insists the headline isn’t robots taking jobs as it reveals new cost-cutting robots designed to assist, not replace, warehouse workers. The company is rolling out systems like the Blue Jay robot, which acts as “an extra set of hands,” helping staff with lifting and reaching while optimizing warehouse operations.
Alongside Blue Jay, Amazon is showcasing Project Eluna, an AI-powered system that acts like a teammate, reducing cognitive load and improving sorting efficiency. These new robots aim to streamline processes, speed up deliveries, and enhance worker productivity without outright replacing humans.
Blue Jay can handle 75% of the items Amazon stores. Developed in just over a year, it combines AI, digital twins, and data from existing robots. The robot coordinates multiple arms to perform various tasks simultaneously, collapsing three separate stations into one efficient workspace. This allows it to pick, stow, and consolidate items in a single spot, powering Same-Day delivery sites.

Project Eluna is Amazon’s agentic AI system designed to optimize workflows and reduce bottlenecks. Alongside warehouse robots, Amazon teased AI-connected augmented reality smart glasses and VR training for delivery drivers.
